Fish and chips have been a beloved staple in British cuisine for centuries. It is a dish that brings people together, whether it's for a quick lunch on the go or a family dinner at home. Chester's Restaurant and takeaway is a family run business and their family has a long history with fish and chips, one that goes back to the early 1960s. It all started with the current owners grandfather, who opened a traditional fish and chip shop in his small town. At the time, one shilling and four pence could get you a delicious serving of this iconic dish. it's hard to believe how much the world has changed since then. But one thing has remained consistent - the quality of our fish and chips.
His grandfather's shop may have been small, but it was full of character and charm. It was a gathering place for many families in the town, and his grandfather took great pride in serving the best fish and chips around. He had his own special recipes for the batter and seasonings, which were passed down through the generations. And they have remained a secret within their family, ensuring that our fish and chips continue to have that special touch.

In the 1980s, the current owners parents took over the family business and opened their own fish and chip shop in Derby. It was a leap of faith, but their hard work and dedication paid off. It quickly became known as one of the best fish and chip shops in the area, winning awards and earning a reputable name. The current owner was fortunate enough to learn the trade from the best, and it became a part of his life from a very young age. After school, the current owner would rush to the shop and sit on the huge pile of potatoes, watching the staff peel and prepare them. he can remember the exciting feeling of the fresh fish delivery arriving and helping to unpack it, being hit by the irresistible scent of sea salt. His father would then take over, using his homemade batter recipe to fry up the fish to perfection, And his mother and sisters would serve it up with a smile, making sure that every customer felt like part of their family. For Chester's, selling fish and chips is not just a business, it's a way of life. It's a tradition that has been passed down through generations, and they take great pride in continuing it. Their shop is not a franchise, nor is it just another business venture. It's an integral part of their family, and it's what they do best.

They are not just any ordinary fish and chip shop - every single dish is created with care and expertise, using our family's secret recipes. All those years of helping and learning have paid off, and now the owner and his wife run the shop with the same passion and dedication that his parents did. In a world where businesses come and go, our fish and chip shop has stood the test of time. It's a testament to the hard work and commitment of his family, and it will continue to be a part of their lives for as long as it can. So the next time you take a bite of their delicious fish and chips, remember that it's not just a meal - it's a family tradition that has been passed down through generations, and they are proud to share it with you.

During mine and my families visit to Chester's we ordered a variety of meals, I ordered their Greek burger, topped with greek tzatziki, halloumi, and olives, served with a side of sweet potato fries, onion rings, and coleslaw.

The Greek burger was a sight to behold, with the vibrant colours of the toppings and the juicy patty oozing with flavours. The first bite was simply divine. The soft and fluffy bun, along with the juicy patty and the refreshing tzatziki sauce, created the perfect balance of flavours. The halloumi cheese added a unique and delightful twist to the burger, while the olives gave it a tangy and salty kick.
The sides were equally delectable. The sweet potato fries were perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, with just the right amount of seasoning. The onion rings were a crunchy delight, and the coleslaw provided a refreshing contrast to the burgers and fries. The price for this dish was only £13 which I feel was well worth the price as the dish wasn't small and was extremely filling and delicious.

My husband's surf and turf was an exquisite dish that consisted of a perfectly cooked sirloin steak and a trio of prawns. The steak was perfectly seared to a golden brown on the outside, yet tender and juicy on the inside. The prawns, on the other hand, were cooked to perfection with a subtle sweetness and a delicate texture. The presentation of the dish was impressive, with colourful grilled tomatoes and a side of sautéed mushrooms perfectly complimenting the main components. The chunky chips, cooked to a crispy perfection, added a nice crunch to the dish. The sirloin steak was cooked to a medium-rare perfection, and each bite melted in my mouth. The trio of prawns added a nice seafood flavour, and the seasonings used were just right, enhancing the natural flavours of the prawns and the steak. I could taste a hint of garlic and butter, which added a depth of flavour to the dish. The sautéed mushrooms were cooked to perfection, with a nice buttery flavour and a slight crispness to them. The side of grilled tomatoes added a refreshing burst of flavour, balancing out the richness of the steak and prawns. The chunky chips were a perfect accompaniment, providing a satisfying crunch and a delicious potato flavour. It was no surprise to me that this surf and turf dish cost £25. The quality of ingredients and the expertly crafted flavours justified the price.
Chester’s also provides high chairs and plastic cutlery for their little customers. This may seem like a small gesture, but it speaks volumes about the restaurant's commitment towards catering to the needs of families with children. Providing plastic cutlery for children, makes it easier for them to handle and use. Let’s face it, kids can be a bit clumsy, and using regular cutlery can be a daunting task for them. Plastic cutlery is lighter and easier to hold, making it the perfect choice for children. This not only saves the parents the hassle of constantly worrying about their child’s safety but also allows children to enjoy their meal independently. Aside from providing practical solutions for children, Chester’s also creates an inviting and friendly atmosphere for families. The staff at Chester’s is always welcoming and accommodating towards families with children.

My 7-year-old son ordered the 6oz gammon with a side of chunky chips, garden peas, and a side salad. The 6oz gammon was placed perfectly on a bed of garden peas, surrounded by golden-brown chunky chips and a side salad of fresh greens. The meat was seasoned to perfection, and it was tender and juicy. It was the perfect balance of sweetness and saltiness, making it a delight to eat. The peas added a subtle sweetness and freshness, making the dish more well-rounded, The side salad, on the other hand, brought a crunchy texture to the dish. For only £10, my son received a well-portioned meal that left him feeling satisfied and content.

For my 2 year old daughter we ordered chicken nuggets with a side of chunky chips, peas and gravy from the children's menu which was £7. we were pleased to find that the chicken was tender and well-seasoned, The side of chunky chips and peas was equally satisfying. The chips were thick-cut, cooked to perfection, and were still crispy even after being doused in delicious gravy. The peas were a refreshing addition to the meal, bringing a balance of nutrition and flavour to the plate. The gravy, which was served separately, was thick and had a rich flavour, complementing the chicken and chips perfectly.

In conclusion to our visit From the presentation to the taste, everything was top-notch. The ingredients used were fresh, and the flavours were well-balanced. It was evident that the chefs took great pride in their work, and it reflected in the dishes they presented. The menu had a variety of options to choose from, catering to different palates and dietary restrictions. The service was also exceptional, with attentive and friendly staff always ready to assist.I was pleasantly surprised to see spotless floors, tables, and chairs. The staff was constantly cleaning and tidying up, ensuring the comfort and satisfaction of the guests. It was evident that the management takes great pride in maintaining the venue. I cannot wait to return. I highly recommend this venue to anyone looking for a clean, well-decorated space with delicious food.
